    WELCOME TO THE AUDIO LAB

A little clarity. A closer listen.

You don’t need to learn a studio’s worth of software. Start with your recording, make a gentle adjustment, and compare what you hear.

    1. 01
      Add your recording

Choose an audio file or try the synthetic sample to explore the controls.

    2. 02
      Start with gentle cleanup

Tap Gentle cleanup to apply a starting preset. Adjust the strength if needed, then use Apply cleanup to update it. More reduction can also soften sounds you wanted to keep.

    3. 03
      Compare, then slow down

Switch between Original and Cleaned at 1×. Slow the playback when useful. Keep pitch preserves the pitch while changing speed in playback and speed-included exports.

    4. 04
Mark it and keep a record

Save interesting moments with a note. Download the cleaned audio, or use an evidence pack to keep the original, cleaned copy and analysis record together.

    Reading the waveform

Time runs left to right. The height shows the sound level, helping you find louder events and quieter gaps. Stereo recordings show each channel separately.

    Reading the spectrogram

Time runs left to right and frequency runs bottom to top. Brighter areas show stronger sound at that frequency. This is a sampled overview; zoom into short moments for more detail. Use Channel to choose the left or right side of a stereo recording.

    Work with a small section

Drag across either view to select a moment. Open Work with a moment to repeat that section, zoom in, or enter exact times. To learn the background noise, select a section containing only that background and choose Learn background from selection.

    Listen with care

Cleanup helps you hear a recording more clearly. It cannot identify the source of a sound. Keep the original, compare versions, and record your observations in your own words.

Level lift changes loudness as well as cleanup. Turn off Lift the overall level in Fine-tune cleanup for a closer level comparison.

    Files, browsers and saving

Audio format support depends on your browser and device. If a file will not open, try a WAV or MP3 copy. This version accepts files up to 100 MB and recordings up to 10 minutes.

Choose a Prepare button, then use a save option in Ready to save. On iPhone or iPad, Share / Save to Files opens the device’s sharing options when supported for that file. Choose Save to Files there. If it is not offered, use Download file and check Safari’s Downloads, or Open file to use the device’s file controls. Cancelling leaves the prepared file available to try again.

Audio is processed on your device. Prepared files stay on this page until you replace the recording, close or refresh it; save the files and notes you want to keep first. Local saving works independently of private Wix submissions.

After saving an evidence pack, check that the ZIP is in Downloads or Files, then choose I’ve saved the ZIP. Opening a share sheet or requesting a download does not mark the session as saved. Save acknowledgement applies only to the current pack; further edits need a new one.

    Owner private review

Private Wix review is reserved for the site owner. Analysis and local file saving do not need an account. The owner can prepare an evidence pack, then choose Send to Wix for review when available. This sends that exact ZIP, including its original recording, listening copy and notes, privately to Scottish Paranormal. Submissions await review and are not automatically published. The initial submission limit is 10 MB for the complete pack; larger packs can still be saved locally.

Only a receipt confirms Wix received the pack. If the result is uncertain, choose Check submission status before retrying. An unconfirmed submission keeps its pack and status check even if you replace the recording. Check that outcome before preparing another evidence pack; other local file formats remain available. Sending does not confirm a local download: keep your own ZIP too. Changes after preparation need a new pack.

    Reopen saved work

Choose Open evidence pack and select the original ZIP downloaded from Audio Lab. You can also drop it onto the recording area. The app checks its contents and file hashes before replacing your current work, then restores your title, notes, markers, drafts, selection and controls.

The full cleanup is rebuilt from the original at the saved analysis rate. An archived listening copy may be a selected or slowed passage; it is kept in your saved ZIP and is not used as the full recording. Rebuilt audio can differ with decoding or app changes. Older packs restore the details they contain. Unsupported or damaged packs leave your existing work available.

Keep the original ZIP rather than recompressing it in another app. There is no automatic session storage: save a new pack after editing. Hash checks show that the pack is internally consistent; they do not prove the recording’s origin or interpretation.
